Mahatma Gandi once said; “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
You should agree with me that Mahatma Gandi simply meant “The best way to find yourself is to
What then is service?
Service is to be COMPLETELY AVAILABLE to HELP SOMEBODY, or TO BE USED BY SOMEONE. In other
words, it means you have to willingly and completely give yourself out for somebody to use.
An improper interpretation of SERVICE is SLAVERY. Yes! So many people have sold themselves to
slavery all in the name of service!
There’s a big difference between servanthood and volunteering. The amazing thing is the two are
actually forms of service. However, one leads to greatness, while the other leads to slavery!
Shall we expound on the difference of these two for a while?
✓ Slavery is a form of service that isn’t willing while volunteering is a form of service that the
individual willingly signs up for without the use of law, war or coercion.
✓ Volunteers have a clear vision of what they’re going into, and the productivity that their service
will yield, while slaves do not.
You are a slave to somebody or an organization if your role is not defined and clarified, and also, if
you’re not pre-informed on what you’re going into.
✓ Volunteers have a will of choice. They can choose who and where they want to serve, while slaves
do not. You’re not a volunteer if you didn’t have the opportunity to choose and commit yourself to
your area of interest.
In as much as service requires loyalty and submission, everyone in service should have a will of
choice. Because, your will determines your end result.
• Are you presently serving because you want to or because you were forced to?
• Are you serving in your area of interest or you’re serving in the area you were dumped?
• Has service made you feel good overtime, or you’ve been frustrated all time long?
• Do you even know that service is a tool for you to become great?
• Do you know that you shouldn’t serve every person and every organization?
The above questions are compulsory to answer because it’s capable of informing your mind on how
you’ve been wielding your power to serve overtime.
These questions and many others will be answered as you read through!
The Basics of Service is to willingly choose to offer what you know or have for the benefits of others.
Everybody knows this, right?
But another basic foundation of service that isn’t known to all is that, In Service, there should be a
RETURN OF VALUE. Meaning, There should be a gain for everybody that serves. This is because
service isn’t only about working for people. You should know that;
✓ Service is a platform to empower humanity; Your primary purpose of Service should be To GIVE
BACK TO HUMANITY. You should work and serve people that are also SERVING HUMANITY
(Providing what people need). If your service isn’t directly or indirectly giving back to humanity (THE
PEOPLE) then greatness isn’t for you because GREATNESS DWELLS AMONG HUMANS!
The only specie that can qualify you for greatness is HUMANITY.
✓ Service is a platform to learn; You should work and serve under people, with the mindset to learn
and gain value from the person you’re serving under to become a better version of yourself. Do not
just work, and work, and work!
WORK TO LEARN and WORK AND LEARN.
This is why you shouldn’t serve any kind of person.
• Serve people and organization that HAVE WHAT YOU NEED.
• Serve people that are ahead of you in your area of interest.
Do not overwork yourself by serving everybody you meet or everybody that’s ahead of you.
YOU HAVE A WILL OF CHOICE!
If you want to be great, Serve where your NEED is. Serve to learn about what you NEED, and get it!
Even after getting it. Don’t stop service! Keep serving humanity!
✓ Service is a platform for training;
Work and serve under people that are not only drawn to your service, but are also interested in your
growth. Serve and work to equip yourself for yourself development, growth and accomplishments.
• Service trains you for higher responsibilities than you’re used to.
• Service gives you an edge over every other person in an area of specialization by EXPERIENCE.
• Service provides platforms for endorsement as and when needed!
• Service equips and empowers.
As a young person, you should devote yourself to service. Serve in your area of interest and know
why you’re serving. Also, be open to learning and be loyal and submissive. Honor people as and
Service leads to GREATNESS.
Serve those who have accomplished greater things than you have because in a little while, you’d also
work in their shoes!
SERVICE IS A TOOL FOR GREATNESS, USE IT WELL.
